Why do OHLC values differ between the daily and hourly charts?

The Open, High, Low, and Close (OHLC) values on a daily chart can differ from those on an hourly chart because the two are built from different data sources.

Daily uses official end-of-day data; hourly uses the live feed

  • The daily chart uses the exchange's official end-of-day data, published after the market closes. It includes every tick of the whole trading day, so its OHLC is the exchange's definitive figure.
  • The hourly and minute charts are built from the live feed received during the day. That feed gives a continuous view of the market but doesn't capture every single tick.

Because exchanges don't publish hourly or minute OHLC in their end-of-day data, those charts have to be built from the live feed — so their values can differ slightly from the daily chart's official figures.

What this means for you

  • It's not an error — the daily chart's OHLC is the exchange's official record; the hourly chart is a live-feed view within the day.
  • For the definitive OHLC of a day, rely on the daily chart.
